I say wait for Fermi even though I'm a big ati fan. Although if you need a card asap hd5870 will last a long while.

I wouldn't get the amd 5 series as they have a lot of issues. there seems to be some inherent flaw in the hardware. Wait for a refresh.

So are you going to upgrade your cpu eventually, my q6600 bottlenecks the shit out of a 5870(could be ram also) so I wouldn't reccomend a 5870 unless you plan to upgrade your cpu while you still own the card.

It's a software issue, AMD released another hotfix driver like yesterday that fixed it.

Apparently my 5870 PCS+ shipped today. Will be getting it tomorrow. Can't fucking to shove my 8800gt up Nvidia's ass.

As a 5770 owner, wait for Fermi. The 5x00 series has a few bugs, which are caused by drivers, but it still sucks.

For example, there's a random bug where the Windows cursor gets to about 2 inches tall randomly. They supposedly fixed it in the latest driver (there was a hotfix for the driver that introduced it), however I still hear of a few people having the issue.

I've also experienced the grey screen issue, and hope that the hotfix truly fixes it.

Plus, for all we know, Fermi could blow past the 5x00 series (people are doubting it though).

agreed, and ati's drivers are still a bit shoddy, especially when it comes to aa in unreal engine games.

The fix didn't do jack for most people, and yes I do know it was only for the 58xx series not the 57xx. The best you can hope for is that it's a bios issue.
I know this because a couple people rma'd their cards, got new ones and some had no issue or seriously less, with the same system. And the issue has been present since September.
